Background of the Study
Mobile applications are at the forefront of digital banking, serving as a primary interface between banks and customers. Heritage Bank has recently implemented significant improvements to its mobile application interface with the goal of driving increased digital banking usage. These improvements include a more intuitive design, simplified navigation, enhanced security features, and personalized dashboards that cater to diverse customer needs. By refining the user interface, the bank aims to make digital transactions more accessible and engaging, ultimately boosting adoption rates among a broad spectrum of users (Ade, 2023).

The revamped interface is designed to reduce friction in the user experience, thereby encouraging more frequent usage and greater customer satisfaction. Empirical studies suggest that user-friendly mobile interfaces are strongly correlated with increased digital banking adoption, as they lower the entry barrier for customers who may be less tech-savvy (Kemi, 2024). Heritage Bank’s initiative is part of a broader digital transformation strategy that seeks to integrate innovative design principles with robust security protocols, ensuring that customers enjoy both ease of use and peace of mind when conducting financial transactions.

However, challenges such as varying levels of digital literacy, inconsistent network performance, and ongoing cybersecurity threats persist, potentially limiting the full benefits of the interface improvements. This study investigates the impact of mobile application interface enhancements on digital banking usage at Heritage Bank, examining how the changes have influenced user behavior and identifying areas for further improvement (Bola, 2025).

Statement of the Problem
Despite significant interface improvements in Heritage Bank’s mobile application, the bank continues to face obstacles in driving widespread digital banking adoption. One key problem is the variability in digital literacy among customers, which may prevent some users from fully capitalizing on the enhanced features (Ade, 2023). Additionally, inconsistent network connectivity in certain regions can impede the smooth operation of the app, leading to user frustration and reduced adoption rates. Cybersecurity concerns further exacerbate these issues, as potential breaches or perceived vulnerabilities may deter customers from transitioning to digital banking (Kemi, 2024).

Moreover, while the improved interface is designed to simplify user interactions, frequent updates and complex feature integrations can overwhelm some users, especially those unfamiliar with digital technology. The lack of standardized metrics to directly measure the impact of interface improvements on digital banking usage further complicates the evaluation process (Bola, 2025). These challenges highlight the need for a comprehensive assessment of the mobile application's usability enhancements and their effectiveness in driving customer adoption. Without addressing these issues, Heritage Bank risks not fully leveraging its digital transformation investments, thereby limiting its competitive advantage in the increasingly digital banking landscape.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the impact of mobile application interface improvements on digital banking usage at Heritage Bank.
  2. To identify barriers related to digital literacy, network performance, and cybersecurity.
  3. To recommend strategies for further optimizing the mobile interface to enhance user adoption.

Research Questions

  1. How do mobile application interface improvements affect digital banking usage at Heritage Bank?
  2. What barriers hinder the full utilization of enhanced mobile features?
  3. How can user experience be further optimized to drive higher digital banking adoption?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H1: Mobile application interface improvements significantly increase digital banking usage at Heritage Bank.
  2. H2: Digital literacy and network issues negatively affect the utilization of the mobile app.
  3. H3: Enhanced cybersecurity measures and user support improve digital banking adoption.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the mobile application enhancements at Heritage Bank. Limitations include regional network disparities and differences in customer digital literacy.
